During my time in Year 1, I had to take up Fashion Illustration as a subject. I was most excited for this subject as I always loved to doodle and draw fashion outfits. I had a chance to learn how to do it professionally and I am glad to now have this skillset.
First, we had to learn how to form and sketch a basic 9 head female croquis. I had to sketch them in frontal view, back view and lastly in a 3/4 view. We could sketch them in different poses after learning the basic pose so here are some of which I think were the best ones I did.
After learning the basics, I had to learn how clothings move on the body of a croquis. Like how the light falls on certain places on the clothes, how and where to add shadows/highlights on them, where should I draw the wrinkles and folds and how to make the clothings have a 3D look on a 2D croquis drawing. Here are some of my examples.
Drawing lines helps to see the movement of the clothes better on the croquis.
Lastly, I had to create a collection and draw them out. The collection should be a Ready-to-Wear Spring/Summer collection with cohesive designs and a minimum of 5 outfits. Here is my illustration for my collection.
I also had to write a fashion report on a successful designer that I admire. Since I love wedding gowns, especially haute couture ones, I decided to write about one of my favourite wedding designer Elie Saab.
