This is one of my subjects I had during my Year 2 of polytechnic. It was the most exciting and interesting subject out of all the subjects I had that semester, although it was tricky as it also happened during the early phase of the Covid-19 pandemic. I had encountered so many setbacks and challenges while taking photos due to restrictions and tight schedules. However, it was a very meaningful subject and I learnt many good photography tips and skills.
ASSIGNMENT 1
The first assignment was to take 1 indoor shot and 1 outdoor shot after learning about composition, angles, positive-negative spaces and lighting. I had taken a few other indoor and outdoor pictures but decided to show the best ones that I submitted for each.
ASSIGNMENT 2
For this next assignment, I had to create a mood board and 5 different outfit based on a fashion theme. I decided to do grunge as I had many clothings that suited that theme. The boards mostly consists of outfit inspirations from movies like 'Singles', 'Before Sunrise', 'Léon the Professional', 'The Craft' and tv series like 'My So-called Life' and 'Buffy the Vampire slayer'. Some characters in the movies and tv shows gave off really good grunge vibes. I even researched up celebrities that embodied the grunge style, for example Drew Barrymore back in the 90s. I also included photos that depicted the kind of person who lived the grunge lifestyle. Old torn books, dark nail polish, dark eyeshadow and lipstick, choker necklaces and messy hair. All these pictures in the mood boards were the styling directions and inspirations I needed to reference for my actual photoshoot.
These were the final 5 shots of each grunge outfits. I had my sisters model for me while I did the styling and became the photographer. I took these at the playground of my house block. It was actually really sunny and hot that day, but I edited the photos to make it look darker and moody. All in all, this assignment was really fun to do. Even if I did encounter challenges like finding people to be my model, deciding on the location of the shoot, accommodating to the schedule of the models (not to mention the deadline!) and tackling the unpredictable weather, I am proud of myself for finishing this assignment.
ASSIGNMENT 3
For the final assignment, I had to again choose a theme to do and conduct a photoshoot similar to what we have done for Assignment 2. However, this time we had to create a storyline and a concept for our chosen theme. It had to be more professional. I had to order a real wedding dress and 2 bridesmaids dresses from ASOS. I had the photoshoot in my house and asked 2 of my friends plus my sister to model for me. Styling and photography were done by me and the makeup was done with the help of my friends.
My theme was wedding and the concept was a ruined wedding. The storyline follows a bride being abandoned by her groom on their wedding day. Each photo represents a point of time that is happening in the story.

'The bride is waiting in the waiting room but feels uneasy as it is taking a long time for the groom to get her.'
'The bride received news that her groom has abandoned her and their wedding. She is upset and in disbelief. She cries and her bridesmaid comforts her.'
'The bride feels depressed and hopeless as she lies down. She becomes empty.'
